March - April 2009 Chief Executive Pledges to Explore Economic Areas with High Potential Chief Executive Donald Tsang, speaking after the fourth meeting of the Task Force on Economic Challenges (TFEC), said that economic areas where Hong Kong enjoyed clear advantages would be explored to realize their full potential. Setting its sights on the long-term competitiveness of Hong Kong, Mr. Tsang said the task force would study how to further develop six key economic areas. Dupont Solar R&D Center Opens DuPont Apollo Global Thin Film Photovoltaic Business Headquarters and Research and Development (R&D) Centre and the Hong Kong Science Park Solar Energy Technology Support Centre at Hong Kong Science Park open new research and development facility. Guangdong-Hong Kong Seminar Strengths Intellectual Property Exchange Hong Kong and Guangdong authorities jointly held a seminar in Zhongshan for Hong Kong-based small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) and Mainland enterprises in Guangdong Province to strengthen awareness of intellectual property (IP) rights protection and sharpen their competitive edge. Cyberport and Microsoft Launch Platform to Drive Innovation A new initiative was unveiled at Cyberport to energize local start-ups and small-and-medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the creative industry by giving them access to advanced development tools and expert technical and business guidance at no upfront cost. IBM Sets Up Cloud Computing Laboratory The Hong Kong government welcomed the decision by IBM to set up a cloud computing laboratory at Cyberport, a move which demonstrates Hong Kong’s advantages as a center for innovation in information technology. Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Welcomes New Colleague Jackson Wong joined the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Washington, D.C. as Assistant Director-General.
