Hong Kong Gains Record High Ranking as Global FDI Recipient
Hong Kong was the world’s fourth largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) recipient in 2009, according to the “World Investment Report 2010” (WIR) unveiled by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Hong Kong's Economic Situation in Second Quarter of 2010
The Hong Kong economy continued to show a broadly-based recovery in the second quarter of 2010, benefited mainly from the robust growth momentum in the Mainland of China and other Asian economies, according to the “Half-yearly Economic Report 2010” released by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.
Pilot Program for Investment in Mainland China's Interbank Bond Market
On August 17, the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) promulgated a notice on a pilot program for the Renminbi (RMB) Clearing Bank and other eligible institutions outside the Mainland to make use of their RMB funds to invest in the Mainland’s interbank bond market.
Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation on Renminbi Business
In July, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), Norman Chan, and Deputy Governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC), Hu Xiaolian, signed a Supplementary Memorandum of Cooperation on the expansion of the renminbi trade settlement program.
Hong Kong's Role in Post-financial Crisis
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) chairman, Ronald Arculli, underscored Hong Kong’s key role in the post-financial crisis economic order. Speaking ahead of a high-level HKSAR Finance Forum in Shanghai on July 21, Mr. Arculli said the recent economic shift from the West towards Asia had presented Hong Kong with unique opportunities.

On August 30, the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Cooperation and Promotion Council (ECCPC) and the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Cooperation Council (THEC) held their first joint meeting in Taipei.
Guangdong/Hong Kong Expert Group on Protection of IPRs
In July, the ninth meeting of the Guangdong/Hong Kong Expert Group on Protection of Intellectual Property Rights was held in Hong Kong. The expert group decided to step up cooperation to raise the level of intellectual property (IP) awareness among the public and enterprises in Guangdong and Hong Kong.

The Port of Savannah in Georgia has launched the second phase of its remarkable 15-year rise from a sleepy shipping center for forest products, cotton and other raw materials to a bustling port-of-entry for retail goods made in China.

A support program has been launched to encourage a new generation of entrepreneurs in Hong Kong. Launched in June, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) SME Start-Up Program sets out to open doors to existing and would-be entrepreneurs in the constantly changing global market.

In late August, the 6th Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) Regional Cooperation and Development Forum (PPRD Forum) was held in Fuzhou, Fujian. On behalf of the Hong Kong Chief Executive, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Stephen Lam, led a 12-member delegation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government to attend the forum.
15th Working Meeting of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Cooperation Joint Conference
On August 3, the 15th Working Meeting of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Cooperation Joint Conference was held in Hong Kong. The meeting was co-chaired by Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration, Henry Tang, and Mainland China’s Vice-Governor of Guangdong Province, Liu Kun.
