July 2007 <Text Only Version> Constitutional Reform Green Paper Unveiled On July 13, 2007, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government published a Green Paper on Constitutional Development to consult the public on the models, roadmap and timetable for electing the Chief Executive and for forming the Legislative Council (LegCo) by universal suffrage – the ultimate aim as provided under Hong Kong's mini-constitution, the Basic Law. New Team of Principal Officials Appointed On June 23, 2007 the appointments of Principal Officials of the Third Term of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government were approved. Hong Kong Commissioner Opens NASDAQ to Celebrate 10th Anniversary On July 2, 2007, Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA, Miss Margaret Fong, presided over the NASDAQ opening bell ceremony in New York; marking the first trading day following the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on July 1, 2007. 12th Annual Made in Hong Kong Film Festival Continues The annual film festival, co-sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and the Smithsonian Institution's Freer Gallery of Art, presents a unique opportunity to showcase the diverse talents of Hong Kong's innovative filmmakers. In recognition of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, this year's festival looks at how Hong Kong cinema has evolved in the last decade. Agreement Reached on CEPA Expansion On June 29, 2007, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Central People's Government agreed on further services liberalization and economic cooperation under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA). U.S. Business Jet Manufacturer Opens Regional Office in Hong Kong Dassault Falcon Jet Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based Dassault Aviation, recently opened a new office in Hong Kong. The office will play a pivotal role in the company's regional strategy; enabling it to establish close relationships with customers across Asia's burgeoning aviation market. Successful Completion of the Subscription of the First Issue of Renminbi Bonds in Hong Kong On July 9, 2007, the China Development Bank (CDB) announced the subscription result of the first issue of renminbi bonds in Hong Kong, reflecting strong response from both retail and institutional investors with an oversubscription rate of nearly two times. Hong Kong and Mainland of China Sign MOU to Enhance Health and Medical Cooperation On June 22, 2007, Hong Kong's Secretary for Food and Health [formerly Health, Welfare and Food Bureau], York Chow, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with visiting Mainland of China Minister of Health, Gao Qiang, to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in health and medical areas with an aim to raise the health care standard in both places. Food, Health and Quarantine Annual Meeting Held in Hong Kong A two-day Guangdong, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Macao "Health, Animal and Plant Quarantine and Food Safety Control Meeting" recently was held in Hong Kong to further promote the cooperation of the five places in health, animal and plant quarantine and food safety through exchange and discussion among experts.
